FOREWORD
The theme for the Church in 2014 is "Fanning the Pentecostal Fire to Impact
Generations" (2 Tim. 1:5-6). This year’s theme sets in motion the
focus for the next five years under the broad theme “Impacting Generations”. The
direction for the next five years is to prepare leaders who can take over
Church leadership from the current leaders who had direct contact with the
founding fathers. The reason is that by
the next five years, many of the leaders who had direct contacts with the
founding fathers will retire from the ministry. Thus the current leadership is
burdened to identify, develop and impact leaders who will lead the Church for
the next generations, sustaining our Pentecostal distinctiveness.
This vision will demand that current leaders and
members will first of all stir up the Pentecostal fire within them and then
impact same to the younger generations. The focus of 2014 is to stir up the
fire in us. This stirring will involve studying the Word concerning the fire
and consciously praying that the fire will ever burn.
The message of the fire will be preached and
discussed at retreats and Church services during the year. However, one of the
most important places where the message of “Fanning the Pentecostal Fire to
impact Generations” will be discussed will be at the Home Cell level. At the
Cell level, the theme is systematically developed into study outlines from the
November Heads’ Meeting scripts. At the Home Cell level, you have opportunity
to thoroughly study and discuss the lessons, ask questions and even share your
thoughts concerning the topics. Indeed growth comes through systematic study,
discussion and application of the Word of God.
The
burden of bringing growth to you and the Church encouraged the National Bible
Study and Cell Committee to diligently prepare these outlines to help in
raising disciples who worship the father in spirit and truth and whose fire is
set ablaze. This systematic study of the Word of God will nourish your soul,
equip and challenge you to live for and serve the Lord. You will be prepared
for every good work of service (Eph. 4: 12).
I
therefore recommend these lessons to you and request that you make a diligent
commitment to the study of them and also apply them to every aspect of your
life. I trust that by so doing, your fire will be set ablaze and it will impact
all the people around you. God bless
you.
Opoku
Onyinah (Apostle Dr.)
Chairman, The
Church of Pentecost.
INTRODUCTION AND
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The
theme chosen by the Chairman and the Executive Council for the year 2014 to
provide direction for the Church is “Fanning the Pentecostal Fire to Impact
Generations” (1 Tim. 1:5-6). The
theme flows out of the 5-year theme of the current Executive and consequently
the Church; “Impacting Generations”.
The theme seeks to identify, nurture and develop leaders and members who will
take over the Church and lead the Church to hold onto her Covenantal and
Pentecostal distinctiveness for the next generations. In order to do this, the
Pentecostal Fire in current leadership must be set ablaze to impact the
generations to take over. The Home Cell ministry, which is our Church’s
structure for discipleship and spiritual growth will once again serve as a
means of fulfilling the purpose of the theme, as we seek to become disciples
whose fire is being fanned into flames. The study outline
prepared is basically based on the theme and it is to enhance the systematic
study of the Word in small relational groups.
The
structure for this year’s Home Cell has been modified a little. Firstly, every Lord’s Supper Day has been
designated Family Day (beginning in
March). On this day, families (husband, wife, children and dependents) are
expected to meet in their various homes to discuss issues pertaining to their
growth and also to pray together. On the Family day, there are no study
outlines and so the Head of the family will provide direction for the day. Where a young person is not staying with
parents, they can possibly join another family for the family day, as a way of being
nurtured in a family set up.
Secondly, as you may be aware, is meant to focus on fellowship and
equipping of the saints. These
aspects have been put together in each script. Thus the segments are explained;
“Smile Awhile” is to help members connect
to each other by sharing their life stories and Christian experiences.
“Into His Presence” is to lead members
to connect to God in worship.
“Digging Deeper” is to help us study the Word
of God and apply them in our daily lives.
“Stand With Me” is to encourage members to
share the burdens of each other through prayer
“Make Jesus Known” is to help the Cell
members to constantly focus on winning others to Christ.
It is expected that the District Minister (Cell Coordinator) will
meet with the Cell Leaders and study the material with them. This will enable
him to untie hard knots, and empower them to go and teach effectively in the
Cell meetings. He is to also help the Cell
Leaders to use the format of the Cell Meetings to make it more relaxed and
refreshing. The focus of the study should be applying the text to daily life.
The Cell Leader thus has a responsibility ahead of the Class so he/she can
impact the class during the studies. As we diligently study His Word, Jesus
would become “incarnate” in us and we will be like Him.
As a Committee we are grateful to God and acknowledge the visionary
leadership of the Chairman, Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, and his team of the
Executive Council members. We appreciate the good relationship that we have
with the General Secretary, both the former, Apostle Dr. Alfred Koduah, and the
current, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi. This has really fanned the fire
in us to do what we have been doing
We
are very grateful to God for the lives of the contributors of the Scripts for
the Heads Meeting which provided direction for the Cell Ministry. We are also
extremely grateful to the Script Writers who painstakingly extracted study
outlines from the teachings presented at November
Heads Meeting-Pastors Franklin Hushie, Henry Ako-Nai, Christian Tsekpoe,
Emmanuel Kwafo and Samuel Gakpetor; Overseer Joel Essel-Donkor; Elders Dr.
Perez Sepenu and Barnabas Asare.
We
are indebted to the Translators who diligently
translated the scripts from English to nine other languages; Akuapem (Ovr.
Henry Obuobi & Mr. Owiredu Amoh); Asante (Ps. Boachie-Ansah & Ps. Alex
Kieninger Anum; Dangme (Elders Tsatsu Owulah & Gordon Ansah); Ewe (Eld.
